Extended Content Booklet Labels for the Health Care Market

June 24, 2024

Booklet labels, also known as extended content labels (ECLs), play a crucial role in the pharmaceutical and life science markets, where flexibility in the distribution of medical products internationally is essential. Booklet labels are a great solution for pharmaceutical labeling as they maximize available space to convey critical information such as safety instructions and multilingual content. At AMH we can customize extended content labels with up to 11 colors, 21 panels, and a variety of materials to fit your application requirements.

Benefits of Using Extended Content Labels

There are many benefits to using extended content labels. One key benefit is they reduce the number of packaging components, making them a cost-effective solution for pharmaceutical and life science packaging. ECLs are secure, user-friendly, resealable and can be dispensed using standard labeling equipment, eliminating the need of packaging line upgrades or modifications. Below are some additional benefits.

  • Space Optimization: Extended Content Labels occupy the same area as traditional labels and can be conveniently unfolded to reveal additional content, maximizing available space while displaying in-depth information.
  • Multilingual Text: Extended Content Labels are great for accommodating global distribution of supplies by using multiple panels to display critical information in multiple languages.
  • Safety Information: When safety instructions, usage guidelines, or regulatory information needs to be communicated, extended content booklet labels provide ample space for detailed content.
  • Clinical Differentiation: Customizable, full-color print deigns on extended content booklet covers ensures clarity and visual differentiation of similar products.

Construction of a Booklet Label

Extended Content Booklet labels combine pressure-sensitive labels with loose folded outserts. These outserts are the panels, or pages, of the booklet label. The pressure-sensitive label is considered the base label, which is what adheres directly to the product. Below is a breakdown of the construction of a booklet label:

  • Base Label: This is a pressure-sensitive label and is the foundation as it adheres directly to the product. The base label is what the additional panels are glued to, in-order to make a booklet construction.
  • Spine: Similar to a book, the spine of the booklet label is the glue that holds all the pages of the booklet together. The spine is typically found on one side of the booklet construction, allowing the opposite side to open freely and reveal the content within the panels.
  • Panels: These are the pages of the booklet label. Depending on the construction, a booklet label panel may have various colors, languages and number of panels. Resealable options are common, allowing for repeated opening and closing of the booklet label.
